Applied Systems product manager earns industry education honor for insurance certification success
University Park, IL — September 27, 2007 - Kathleen Tomachek-Cox, a product manager for insurance technology company Applied Systems, Inc., recently achieved the Outstanding Course Leader Award from the American Institute for CPCU and the Insurance Institute of America.
The award recognizes Tomachek-Cox's success in teaching classes in general insurance programs for Applied Systems product managers and other staff members. After taking Tomachek-Cox's INS classes, 94.7 percent of Applied Systems participants passed the national certification exam. The national average was 76.8 percent. The Institutes commended the instructor for exemplary results and outstanding service to her students and her profession.
"You certainly helped many of your students succeed," wrote Gina M. Mazzulla, The Institutes' director of marketing, in the award letter to Tomachek-Cox. "We sincerely hope that you will continue to share your talents with a new wave of insurance and risk management practitioners who will be seeking help to achieve their educational goals."
Tomachek-Cox, an accredited advisor in insurance, is a 23-year veteran of the insurance industry. She joined Applied Systems in April 1999 after 15 years as an independent agent. For her, the insurance certification classes fulfill a personal goal to use her experience to make a difference for others. In addition, she said, the program's success speaks volumes about her co-workers' dedication to learning insurance as well as her company's commitment to knowing its customers' business.
"I find it gratifying that the professionals I work with are so committed to understanding the needs and challenges that insurance agents and brokers face every day," said Tomachek-Cox. "Our customers can be sure that we develop technology with an appreciation for their work and the insurance knowledge they expect."
Teaching insurance certification classes is not part of a product manager's regular responsibilities at Applied Systems, said Tomachek-Cox's boss, Vice President of Product Management Kathy R. Lattz. While everyone in Applied Systems Product Management is required to take the INS classes, no one is required to take the national exam, Lattz said.
"Thanks to Kathie's ability to facilitate and train on the material, relating it to the work we do at Applied Systems every day, she has inspired nearly all of her students to take and pass the exam," Lattz said. "She gives us great confidence that our employees have a gifted instructor willing to share her insurance knowledge and experience."
