2011 Best Practices Study shows majority of top performers are Applied Systems agencies

Big I study lists 72 percent of agencies relying on Applied Systems

University Park, Ill. — December 13, 2011 — U.S. insurance agencies that manage business with Applied Systems software continue to rank among the industry's top performers identified in the latest update to the Best Practices Study sponsored by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) and Reagan Consulting.

The 2011 Best Practices update shows that since data were gathered for the 2010 study, agencies generated modest organic growth and held profitability constant across most of the six revenue categories in the study. Other findings show personal lines growing and commercial lines experiencing far less negative growth than the previous year.

The Best Practices study originated in 1993 to provide agents with meaningful performance benchmarks and business strategies to improve performance and increase agency value. Agencies in the study truly are the best performers, said Best Practices project manager Shirley Lukens, AAI, of Reagan Consulting. Among the 2011 study's elite group of 208 insurance agencies named for outstanding management and financial performance, nearly 72 percent use software solutions from Applied Systems.

"A lot of good agencies are nominated to participate in the annual Best Practices Study, but only the top-performing agencies make the cut and qualify for the Best Practices Agency status," Lukens said. "These agencies are smart at investing in their people, their systems, their company partnerships and their client relationships. They work hard at maintaining a competitive edge. Obtaining and sustaining their Best Practices status is a part of that process."

"We congratulate the Applied Systems agencies who were recognized for their outstanding management and financial performance in the 2011 Best Practices Study," said Applied Systems CEO Reid French. "The study has become synonymous with excellence in the insurance industry. We are proud our software has provided a competitive advantage for so many prestigious agencies that have selected Applied Systems as their trusted partner."
